Digital Scrapbook Designer Review: Jofia Designs

Kit: Summer Pleasures

Jofia Devoe is one of our favorite designers. She is a favorite because she breaks the mold of what a digital scrapbook page typically looks like. There are two schools of thought when it comes to digital scrapbooking. One school of thought is to create digital files that mimic exactly their paper counterparts. So a piece of curled ribbon looks like it would in person. Frames and metal brads are created to look as realistic as possible, even with lighting tones to emphasize a 3D effect.

The second school of thought relishes the idea that digital effects exist which never could be recreated in paper. (Unless you meticulously cut out a figure from a photograph, somehow softened the edges, and then glued it to a paper background so that the edges didn’t even have a ghost’s chance of peeling up.)

Jofia Devoe is an artist. Her background papers are so delicate and dreamy that you almost don’t want to put anything on them. Her creative team excels at photo extractions, which is a good reason for having a great digital scrapbooking software program that will help you do just that. Her kits seem to be especially adorable for babies and small children, but occasionally, you will see an adult featured and even some journaling.

Digital scrapbook pages like this are worthy to be framed and hung as artwork, especially if your decorating style is modern or whimsical. Jofia uses muted colors and excels at hyper-realistic embellishments such as water droplets, puddles of water, or beams of light. With children sitting in or on her embellishments (you may need to resize them to match the proportion), a photograph of your son or daughter eating cereal is suddenly transformed into the magical world of children discovering life’s little joys.

There are many themed kits to choose from. All are available from After Five Designs.
